About Howes Primary School

Howes Community Primary School was built in 2006 and is in the heart of the Cheylesmore Community. Our children are from the Cheylesmore, Stivichall, Finham and Whitley areas of Coventry.

Howes is a great place to learn! We are proud of our school and are continually striving for the highest possible standards. Our curriculum seeks to develop core skills and a positive attitude towards life long learning.

The large sports field, adventure trail and playground enhance the quality of education offered and the children's environmental awareness. The school building is light, bright and airy. It is designed for education in the twenty first century.

Children from across the city may attend our Hearing Impaired Unit (HIU). Each of these children has an individual integration programme based on their own communication and learning needs.
Our morning Nursery caters for 26 children and we currently have spaces – so please contact us if you would like to consider taking up a place with us.

Our vision is for all children “to be the best you can be”. We seek to ensure that every child receives equal access to the curriculum and makes good progress. We want our children to be well motivated with positive attitudes and a pride in themselves, others and the school.

We wish to make your child's time at Howes a memorable and enjoyable one. We appreciate and encourage the involvement of parents, recognising how important that parent partnership is.

Welcome back and Happy New Year 2012

2011 was a good year. Some of the highlights

  • We built on our good Ofsted in September 2010 that recognised the progress children across a variety of areas, with the quality of care, guidance and support for children rated as outstanding.
  • We continue to develop technology within the school and have seen our children win local and national awards – 2010 and 2011‘Creativity Award’ for animation. Ofsted recognised Howes as a school where technology is a strength and staff are innovative in their use of it.
  • Howes offers the children a broad and vibrant range of experiences. Parents and carers together with Friends of Howes, have raised money each year that significantly support educational trips for all children. This has made our children’s learning so much more relevant, fun and focused. (The trip to Cadbury’s world and the Aztec exhibition continues to be a favourite!)
  • Our outdoor environment has continued to develop, particularly in relation to the plants we have been able to grow. We have worked with John and Keeley from the City Gardens charity to create a poly tunnel in which we have grown a variety of plants - including a bumper crop of tomatoes! Year 6 will be working with Ryton Gardens on a compost project and each year group has responsibility for individual raised beds to plant and look after. We are all developing our green fingers!
  • Our SATs results this year continue to be a strength. Staff at Howes have not only worked hard but imaginatively and with enthusiasm to ensure that the children at Howes learn, achieve well and develop the skills and capacities within themselves to go on learning.
  • All of these things are only achieved when children, parents and carers and staff work together on shared goals. Thank you for your continued support and hard work.
  • We value the progress and achievements our children make but we also value the attitudes, talents and aspirations they are developing and the caring, considerate and responsible individuals they are becoming.

2011 was a great year. We are definitely looking forward to 2012…
